Vice Chair Office, Strategy & Operations
Job description
Who we are
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies - from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups - use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About the team
The Vice Chair Office sets Stripe's strategy across government relations, public affairs, and policy, and partners closely with publishing, philanthropy, and other external-facing programs — together, the parts of the company that shape how Stripe shows up in the world beyond the product itself, and that increasingly shape the long-term environment Stripe operates in.
We translate the Vice Chair's external-impact priorities into a clear portfolio of programs, with disciplined decisions and coordinated execution behind them. The portfolio spans enduring work (policy strategy, government-relations cadence, external stakeholder relationships) and time-bound programs (major convenings, publishing initiatives, campaigns). As a result, the Policy team is one of our closest and largest cross-functional partners — much of what we do is built and run in close coordination with the policy team, not just adjacent to it. We're a small, high-output team working on questions with a long time horizon, and the work changes shape as the portfolio grows.
What you’ll do
This role works closely with the Chief of Staff on strategy and operations for the Vice Chair Office. You'll help design how this cross-functional portfolio runs, and you'll own individual programs end-to-end. Some weeks that means building a planning process from scratch; other weeks it means running a convening or driving a cross-functional initiative to a decision. You'll work at every altitude — from shaping how the team plans and prioritizes, to being in the room for the execution details that make a program land well.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Chief of Staff to translate the Vice Chair's priorities into a clear portfolio of programs across policy, public affairs, publishing, and external partnerships
- Design and run the team's operating rhythm — the planning, review, and decision forums that keep a fast-moving, cross-functional portfolio aligned
- Own programs end-to-end: frame the objective, build the plan, drive execution, and report on outcomes
- Build the operational foundations for a growing team — from how work gets prioritized and tracked, to how we define and measure success across a portfolio of programs that don't share a common metric today
- Stand up the team's approach to measurement: define what success looks like per program, run experiments where useful, and track outcomes so the team can tell what's working
- Represent the Vice Chair Office in cross-functional settings with comms, policy, legal, finance, and external partners
- Spot risks and dependencies across the portfolio early and drive them to resolution
- Take on new projects and ambiguous problems as the portfolio's priorities shift
Who you are
We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
Minimum requirements
- 3-5 years experience in strategy, program leadership, or an operating role supporting a senior leader or a complex, cross-functional team
- A track record of turning ambiguous priorities into a structured plan and driving it through to execution
- Strong written and verbal communication, with experience preparing materials for senior stakeholders
- Good judgment about when to make a call yourself and when to escalate
- Comfort managing several workstreams at once without losing track of the details
- Impeccable organizational, project management and stakeholder management skills
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in policy, government relations, public affairs, or a related field
- Experience working directly with senior executives
- Experience building a process, program, or team structure from scratch
- Experience defining success metrics or running experiments for programs that don't have an obvious, pre-built way to measure impact
