How to spot a fake remote or visa job

Three rules catch almost every job scam. A real employer never asks you to pay for training, equipment or visa processing. A real employer never runs an entire hiring process over WhatsApp or Telegram. And a real employer never sends you money to buy your own laptop. If any of those three happens, stop.

1. A real employer never asks you to pay

Not for training, not for equipment, not for a background check, and never for visa processing. Sponsorship legal fees are the employer’s cost, which is exactly why so few companies sponsor. Any request for money is the end of the conversation.

2. A real employer never interviews only over WhatsApp or Telegram

A first message on a chat app can be legitimate, but a full hiring process that never touches a company email domain, a real video call, or a named person you can verify is not one.

3. A real employer never sends you money to buy your own equipment

This is a check-fraud pattern. The payment clears, you spend it, the payment reverses, and you owe your bank the money. No exceptions, no matter how normal it sounds.

Other warning signs

  • The salary is far above the market rate for the work described
  • You were hired without a real interview, sometimes within hours
  • The email domain is a free provider, or a near-miss of the real company domain
  • They ask for your passport, ID or bank details before any offer exists
  • The job description is vague about what you would actually do all day
  • You are pushed to decide immediately, or told the role will go to someone else
  • The company has no verifiable presence beyond the message you received

No. The site is free for job seekers and always will be. We charge employers to post, and that is our only revenue from the board.
Do you collect my resume?
No. There is no application form anywhere on the site. Every apply button links to the employer’s own careers page, so we never receive your resume, ID or contact details.
Will anyone from Get Hired Anywhere message me about a job?
Never. We do not have recruiters and we do not contact candidates about roles. If someone claims to be us offering you a job, it is a scam. Report it to hello@gethiredanywhere.com.
Are visa sponsorship jobs more likely to be scams?
Sponsorship and remote work are the two most scam-targeted categories, because both attract people with an urgent need and less leverage. The single most reliable filter is the payment rule: a real sponsor pays the legal fees themselves.
