Cost Accountant

andurilindustriesSydney, New South Wales, Australia

Job description

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Anduril Australia is scaling operations in Sydney to support growing manufacturing volume across our cutting-edge product portfolio. We are seeking an analytical, execution-focused Cost Accountant to join our growing team. Positioned at the critical intersection of core Accounting and operational Finance, this role is perfect for a Mid-Tier or Big 4 Auditor (3–4 years of experience) looking to transition their analytical skills into a hands-on, executional industry career.

Reporting to the Cost Accounting Manager, you will drive the execution of end-to-end cost accounting processes across a portion of Anduril's portfolio. Instead of just processing transactions, you will be responsible for the detailed analysis, cost roll-ups, and structural reconciliations that ensure our manufacturing data is accurate and compliant. You will leverage your background in risk and internal controls to support Anduril’s future IPO readiness, while mastering standard costing methodologies and complex manufacturing workflows on the factory floor.

This is a foundational role in our growing Sydney-based function, offering a unique opportunity to build a deep, highly sought-after technical skillset at the cutting-edge of Defence Manufacturing in Australia.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Execute routine standard costing updates, assisting with cost roll-ups, Bill of Materials (BOM) reviews, and ensuring accurate inventory valuation.
  • Track the end-to-end manufacturing lifecycle, ensuring proper accounting flows between Raw Materials, Work in Progress (WIP), Finished Goods & Cost of Goods Sold (COGS).
  • Manage month-end close for work orders, performing daily/monthly reconciliations and resolving transaction exceptions on the factory floor.
  • Analyze manufacturing variance data, investigating deviations in price, usage, efficiency and volume to find the "why" behind the numbers.
  • Coordinate physical and cycle counts, partnering with plant operations to maintain inventory accuracy and preparing supporting schedules for external audit reviews.
  • Support global supply chain flows, executing cost backflushing to designated programs while gaining exposure to international transactions and Accounting.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CA or CPA qualification completed or tracking toward completion.
  • 3–4 years of experience in Big 4 or Mid-Tier external audit, with exposure to auditing inventory, manufacturing, or supply chain clients.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of accounting standards, specifically AASB 102 / IAS 2 (Inventories) and internal control environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong data skills; prior exposure to tier-1 ERPs like Oracle Fusion is a distinct advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to collaborate across local operational teams and global finance and accounting functions.
  • Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance; flexibility to occasionally align with U.S. meeting times.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience auditing or working within Defence, Aerospace, or advanced technology manufacturing sectors.
  • Exposure to scale-up environments or businesses preparing for a future IPO.
  • Familiarity with Australian or U.S. government contracting cost principles (e.g., ASDEFCON, AIC, FAR, DFARS).
